FAQ - For Kids

Does it come in a box?

Yep. Big one. Anything else?

What do I do with the large box?

Since the dawn of time, kids have played with the box or container that a toy, gift or delivery has come in. We embrace this and use it as both a teaching moment about sustainability and creativity. Our packaging is made from 100% recycled material and we hope you’ll give it one more use.

FAQ - For Parents

What is Franklin+Emily’s shipping policy?

Our furniture is made to order and finished by hand, please allow 2 - 4 weeks from purchase for shipping. We often have some of our best-sellers assembled and ready ship, if you are looking for a particular piece and would like a more detailed shipping estimate please email us at hello@franklinemily.com and we’d be happy to help.

We offer free domestic shipping to the lower 48 states for all orders over $150. Shipping is calculated at checkout for orders to Hawaii and Alaska as well as international orders.

Choosing expedited shipping options only reduces shipping time, not production time. The production time will remain the same and will take approximately 2 - 4 weeks to ship.

What is Franklin+Emily’s return policy?

We want you and your family to love our furniture as much as we do, but if for any reason you’d like to initiate a return we are here to help. If an item is defective or damaged, we will arrange for a replacement or refund. If an item is not what you expected, we will gladly accept returns or exchanges of unused, full price items in the original packaging within 14 days of receipt.

We ask that you hold onto your original packaging if you're thinking about a return and we recommend that you ensure all merchandise and return to us through a delivery service that provides a tracking number and also requires a signature for verification of receipt (such as FedEx Ground, UPS or USPS registered mail).

If you are not happy with the color of your cushion covers, we can swap the covers out for a different color on any unused items within 14 days of receipt. Once the returned cushion covers are received we will ship the replacement covers free of charge.

Need help deciding on a style, frame or cushion color? Send us a note at hello@franklinemily.com and we’d be happy to send you swatches of all of our materials.

How do I make a return?

Contact us by email at hello@franklinemily.com and we’d be happy to help. Once the return is approved we will provide you with our return shipping address and details.

Refunds will be processed and credited to the same account to which your purchase was originally billed. Please allow up to two weeks from the date on which your merchandise is received by us for your account to be credited. Items that are part of an exchange will ship as soon as your return is received.

Are there variations in your pieces?

Our furniture is made with natural woods and materials that may differ in color or texture from piece to piece. These variations are natural in the manufacturing of hand made furniture, making each item unique and distinct.

On occasion, minor product details may differ slightly between what is displayed on the site and what is shipped to you in the interest of providing the best design and product quality for our customers.

Does Franklin+Emily furniture require assembly?

No, our furniture is ready to sit in, right out of the box. Unlike most children’s furniture on the market, our pieces are shipped fully assembled with internal fastenings. This little detail saves precious time for busy parents and allows us to build stronger, sturdier furniture for your littles ones. Quality is important to us and we hope each piece sees generations of adventures.

Can I see the fabric and finishes?

Absolutely. Send an email to hello@franklinemily.com and we’d be happy to answer any questions and send you swatch samples.

How do I clean and care for the cushion covers?

Most stains can be spot cleaned with a clean rag or paper towel. The cushion covers can also be machine washed. Simply unzip the covers at the rear or bottom, remove the wrapped-foam and wash the covers with like colors, tumble dry on low heat. For more details on stain removal, please see the documentation provided by the fabric manufacturer here

For general care, the fabric loves a quick once-over with a lint brush to help restore the soft luster of Ultrasuede®. Periodically, it’s also recommended to vacuum the fabric and then dust it gently but thoroughly with a well-wrung damp cloth or sponge. (Take care not to get the fabric too wet in doing this.)

How to I clean and care for the frames?

We recommend using a mild, wood-specific cleaner to care for the frames. Our finishes are considered water-resistant, but not waterproof. We recommend that the surfaces are kept dry at most times. The surface can get wet as long as it is dried off in a reasonable time. Avoid direct light and heat sources and setting anything hot or damp on the wood.

How do I clean and care for the leather?

As a natural material, each leather chair is unique in it’s color and texture. The leather ages beautifully with use, and is cleaned simply with a damp cloth.

Are you in stores?

No, Franklin+Emily furniture is only sold online at this time. However, if you are in the New York area you can stop by one of these fine retailers, bookstores, or play-spaces to see, sit in and enjoy our chairs.

What’s the age range that you recommend?

Our furniture is designed to accommodate kids from 3 until 9, but strong enough for parents to sneak a sit once the kids go to bed.

What does the future hold for Franklin+Emily?

Lots. There are several pieces in the both the design and prototype phase. New pieces that will ‘play well’ with others in our collection and continue to let children expand.

What’s the deal with the acorn?

It’s the seed of an oak tree. The design of the brand was conceived by the NYC design company, Virgo NY. We wanted something universally recognizable from a young age. Something that suggested youth, but also growth. Also, something that kids might find in a park or on the street and have a connection to.
